OWNER/PRINCIPAL DESIGNER
Carol Madeen

Carol Madeen is an Allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). In 1979 she found her purpose while living in Singapore and Thailand designing and building refugee camps for the United Nations High Commissions for Refugees (UNHCR). She worked along side an Irish architect laying out facilities in three remote refugee camps on the Thai/Cambodian border. She learned that the design has everything to do with beauty, style and culture. hundreds of thousands of refugees came across the border into the largest refugee camp ever constructed at the time, Khao I Dang. The first thing the refugees wanted was the recreated schools and cultural centers to recover their lost lives. After returning to the states, Carol completed four years of a professional architecture degree program at Montana State University in 1987. She then moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico to begin her internship with Ed Mazria, a leading solar architect and author of The Passive Solar Energy Book. At Mazria Associates, Carol was a designer-draftsman on numerous residential and commercial projects, including the New Mexico Museum of Folk Art and Sol y Sombra, a conference center. Mazria Associates also designed two 30,000 square foot corporate retreat projects in Las Vegas, New Mexico and Lake Arrowhead, California. Carol Madeen designed and specified the finish materials, casework, architectural details and other interior details on both of these projects. She then selected, purchased and installed all of the furnishings and interior decor at both sites. The projects included staff and executive offices, staff dormitories, executive living suites and commercial kitchen facilities. This three-year experience led Carol to her career as an interior designer.
